About Sleepy Hollow Farm

Sleepy Hollow Farm is a competitive yet fun show barn located in Longmont, Colorado. With a supportive atmosphere, and top coaching, Sleepy Hollow Farm is the place to be whether you are just starting out or want to be competitive at a Grand Prix level.

Mark Mead and JJ Atkinson-Mead run a true three-ring barn, with top hunter, jumper and equitation results. They work out of Fox Hill Farm, an elite boarding facility in Longmont, Colorado, that features heated box stalls and outdoor runs with shelter, large individual turnouts, indoor and outdoor arenas and a hot walker coming soon. Care includes Triple Crown grain fed twice a day, grass hay fed three times per day, bedding and cleaning of stalls and shelter areas, turn-out and blanketing.

While Sleepy Hollow Farm does not have any school horses available for lessons, Mark and JJ are happy to help you find a horse to own or lease. Sleepy Hollow Farm also offers trailer-in lessons.

Mark Mead

Trainer

Mark founded Sleepy Hollow Farm in 1991. His expertise and dedication to the sport is unparalleled. As a Grand-Prix rider and a hunter expert, Mark has competed at a top level across the nation at some of the biggest venues and finals. As many who watch him ride say, he is a magician on a horse, and his gentle approach exemplifies who he is as a horseman. 

 

Mark has the ability to instill technique, confidence and success to any horse and rider combination. A true coach to get you to the next level in any ring.

JJ Atkinson-Mead

Trainer

JJ joined the Sleepy Hollow Farm team in 2013 and has been an integral part of the program ever since. Her experience and her love of the horses is what makes her a top coach in Colorado.

​

JJ has had great success at the Grand-Prix level, competing Nationally and globally. Completing the NEXEN Cup Derby at Spruce Meadows and winning a horse as the grand prize in the $15,000 Puissance at Thunderbird, with the winning jump over 2 meters are only a couple of her accomplishments. 

​

JJ has the strength of being able to take what she has learned as a rider, and explain it in a way all levels of students can understand. She is a coach that can help any horse and rider to achieve their goals.

Sophie Shain

Assistant Trainer

Sophie began riding around age 7 in Seattle, Washington. She competed throughout the West Coast and Canada successfully as a junior in the hunters, jumpers and equitation/ medals. During college, Sophie rode NCAA/NCEA for Baylor University and earned a National Championship.


In 2012, Sophie had the opportunity to work and ride in Argentina, and specialized in starting young horses.
 

Sophie is passionate about teaching “the how and why” when it comes to horsemanship and care. Her favorite part about coaching is developing young and beginner riders so they can achieve their goals.

Ame Pate

Assistant Trainer

Ame joined the Sleepy Hollow Farm team in 2019. She started her professional career 2023, and has been riding competitively for 9 years. Ame has shown all over the country and in many disciplines from the big EQ to the 1.35m jumpers and everything in between. 

​

Ame thrives with jumper and equitation style horses/ riders. She focuses on challenging and outside of the box horses. Ame also excels in training students at varying levels by promoting confidence, working on body position, and connecting each rider with their horses. 

​

Ame is currently working on moving her personal horse up into the bigger jumpers and then to the FEI circuit. She is deeply passionate about horses and loves that everyday brings new learning and excitement for every horse and rider!

Rachel Sigman

Assistant Trainer

Rachel comes to Colorado from Chicago. She started her professional career in 2019, and has been riding for 13 years. She has a background in the equitation world, and enjoys working on flat work and position fundamentals. 

​

Rachel loves horses and is dedicated to riding. She focuses on developing horses in Sleepy Hollow Farm's young horse program. 

​

Rachel works part-time, while she pursues her Juris Doctor degree at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law
